iOS 16: These big iPhone features will be available in a month

Just a few more weeks, and then we can install the big iPhone update of 2022. iOS 16 will be released in September, with all kinds of cool features. Below we list the best features that will be on your iPhone for the next month.

iOS 16: the biggest innovations

Little changed last year with iOS 15, but with iOS 16, Apple is going bigger. For example, the lock screen is completely overhauled, the battery percentage returns, iCloud photo sharing becomes easier and more.

To install iOS 16 on your iPhone, you need an iPhone 8 (Plus) or newer. The first generation iPhone SE (from 2016), iPhone 6s and iPhone 7 are excluded: these devices are stuck on iOS 15. Below you can read about the biggest innovations to look forward to.

1. New Lock Screen

Do you like to personalize your iPhone? More will soon be possible, thanks to a renewed iPhone lock screen. This is the screen you see when your device is still locked. You can adjust the design of this with iOS 16. For example, it is possible to change the colors and font of the clock.

Widgets can also be placed on the lock screen. For example, you can see on your lock screen what your next calendar appointment is, or add shortcuts for your smart home. You can read more about the new lock screen in an article about the lock screen in iOS 16.

2. End of the reCAPATCHA

Apple makes short work of the annoying reCAPTCHA puzzles, which annoy us all as we try to guess how many traffic lights are in a photo. In iOS 16, a so-called Private Access Token is used to authenticate you to a website or app.

The token uses a combination of information about your device and your Apple ID to tell a website that you’re a human, rather than a robot. This all happens in the background via iCloud, so there’s no need to solve an impossible puzzle.

3. Battery percentage

It’s a small adjustment, but it makes many iPhone users happy: the battery percentage returns. You must first activate it in the Settings app, under ‘Battery’. After activating you will see the percentage in the battery icon. Oddly enough, you can’t activate the percentage on all iPhones. With an iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini you do not have the option.

4. Lots of small but nice improvements

The best thing about a major iPhone update are the many small, but useful additions. They are also fully present in iOS 16. You can easily make a sticker from a photo, you can finally see your WiFi password, you can lock your album of hidden photos and more.
