iOS 16 has been out for a few months now and has several cool new features. What other new iOS 16 features are we expecting in 2023?
iOS 16 will get even more new features in 2023
iOS 16 was released for the iPhone some time ago and regularly receives minor updates. Last week, iOS 16.3 was released, an update that was mainly intended to fix problems in iOS 16. The first rumors about iOS 17 are slowly starting to come out, the iOS version that is expected in September.
Before iOS 17 appears, there will be a number of cool new features in iOS 16. Apple Pay will be expanded and Apple Music should finally receive a long-awaited update. What new features can we expect for iOS 16 in 2023?

Apple Pay will be expanded in iOS 16
One of the biggest upcoming changes in iOS 16 is Apple Pay. Two new features are added to Apple’s own payment service. We list the new features for Apple Pay in iOS 16 for you.
Apple Pay Later
One of these new features is Apple Pay Later. With this new feature you can – as the name suggests – pay the amount spent later. This amount is then spread over four installments, without any interest on this amount. For example, Apple is competing with Klarna, for example.
Apple announced this feature back in June 2022, but Apple Pay Later still hasn’t appeared. It is therefore expected that Apple Pay Later will be released for iOS 16 in 2023. It is not yet clear whether the service will also come to the Netherlands immediately.

Savings account in Apple Card
Apple has also announced that it wants to link a savings account to the Apple Card, Apple’s own debit card. This savings account can then be viewed in full in the Wallet and provides an overview of the growth (or shrinkage) of your bank account. Your existing savings account can be linked to this new savings account, so that you have a complete overview of your finances.
Apple Card is currently only launched in the United States, so it is not expected that this feature will come to the Netherlands soon. Apple has not yet announced its intention to bring Apple Card to the Netherlands.

New generation CarPlay
A new generation of CarPlay is reportedly appearing this year. The new version of CarPlay is a huge extension of the current CarPlay. The most important change: CarPlay will support multiple screens. This way, CarPlay can really take over all the screens of your car in the future.

This means that the speedometer, controls, radio and air conditioning are displayed via Apple’s software. For example, in the future it will be possible to control the temperature and the radio via CarPlay or to personalize all screens as you wish. The new CarPlay is expected at the end of this year.
Apple Music Classical
We’ve been waiting for it for a while now: Apple Music Classical. Apple’s music service – which is only intended for classical music – was supposed to appear last year, but has still not been launched. The new app will probably exist alongside Apple Music and will be a completely new service. However, Apple has not released anything about Apple Music Classical for a while now.

Apple may well face both technical and financial challenges in developing Apple Music Classical. Classical music is structured differently from modern music and is more difficult to digitize. In addition, it is not yet clear what a subscription for Apple Music Classical will look like, music service Primephonic already pleaded for one payment-per-second.
So much is still unclear, but we expect the app to appear in iOS 16 this year. After all, Apple Music Classical should have been launched last year.

How to Get Push Notifications from Safari in iOS 16
A feature sorely missed in iOS: getting notifications from Safari. It’s already possible on your Mac, but you still can’t set up notifications from websites on your iPhone. Apple indicated in June last year that Safari on the iPad and iPhone will support notifications for the first time.
Since then, the update has still not appeared, but due to Apple’s own announcement, we do expect this new feature to come to iOS 16 this year.
iMessage Contact Key Verification
In 2023, iMessage will be equipped with a new function that should ensure the safety of users. With iMessage Contact Key Verification, you will automatically receive a warning if you send or receive a message from an untrusted sender. In addition, with the new function it is possible to confirm the verification code of each other, so that you can be sure that you are dealing with the right person.
The security function is mainly intended for people who are more likely to be exposed to digital threats. These include journalists, activists and government employees. The iMessage Contact Key Verification should form a safer digital environment for these people.

iOS 16.4 is coming sooner than expected
iOS 16.3 was released last week and has fixed a number of major problems in iOS 16. Apple is now busy with the first version of iOS 16.4, which we expect sometime in the coming weeks. According to various rumors, the beta version is even coming sometime in the next few days, so iOS 16.4 may not be long in coming.
Whether the new features will already be processed in iOS 16.4 remains to be seen, but it is clear that iOS 16 will be expanded considerably in 2023.
