Apple releases iOS 17.5 beta 2
A new test version of iOS 17.5 is available again! In beta 2 of iOS 17.5 sideloading expanded on the iPhone. Since iOS 17.4, alternative app stores allowed, so you no longer have to rely on the Apple App Store. No new online stores have been released yet, but that probably won’t last long. For example, MacPaw and Epic Games already announced their own app store On.

In iOS 17.5 beta 2, installing apps has been adjusted again, because you no longer need an online store at all. In the new update, Apple allows applications to be downloaded directly from the Internet. For example, a developer can offer his app on the iPhone via his own website. However, this is not without limitations, because developers still have to pay money to Apple.
Download apps from websites
As a result of new European legislation, it is possible from iOS 17.5 beta 2 to install apps without one app store to use. To do this, developers must agree to the new rules of the App Store. They describe that developers must pay fifty cents to Apple for every new download of their app. That doesn’t just happen, only after one million downloads within twelve months is that amount mandatory. The first million installations are therefore free.
In addition, the website on which the app is offered must be registered with Apple’s App Store program. Do you choose to install an app from the internet? Then in iOS 17.5 beta 2 you will see an extensive description of the software you install, the developer behind the app, screenshots of the app and age advice. You must agree to this before the app is downloaded. In this way, Apple tries to guarantee the safety of users.
More new features in iOS 17.5
So it becomes easier to install apps on your iPhone. Other new features in iOS 17.5 beta 2 include a Podcasts widget and a new game in Apple News Plus. The latter is not available in Europe, so you will mainly notice the new way to download applications. Apple previously brought small changes to your iPhone with the first test version of iOS 17.5.

This is only iOS 17.5 beta 2, so it will take some time before the final version is available to everyone. We can probably expect iOS 17.5 in the second half of May.
