iOS 18.1 is out

In September, Apple released iOS 18 with a number of interesting improvements. But as of today, a new update is ready and iOS 18.1 can be downloaded. This brings a number of nice features to your iPhone.

The Control Panel will receive new controls. You will then get improved buttons for WiFi and VPN, so that you no longer have to go to the Settings menu every time to adjust these network and Bluetooth settings.

Furthermore, the camera control of the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max has also been given additional functions. For example, in iOS 18.1 you can now immediately open selfie mode here. This now includes the first AI functions for American iPhone owners. Unfortunately, we have to wait a little longer for this in the Netherlands.

The camera on these devices also gets a new feature, because after installing the update it is possible to take spatial photos. This camera function is also coming to the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Unfortunately not to the iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Plus. You can later view spatial photos (and videos) in depth on the Vision Pro or other VR glasses such as the Meta Quest (3).

Just install

You will automatically receive a message that an update is ready for your iPhone. But don’t you want to wait for that? Then you can of course also manually check whether the update to iOS 18.1 is already ready for you. You do this in the following way.

  • Tap ‘Settings’;
  • Go to ‘General’;
  • Tap ‘Software Update’ and choose iOS 18.1.

To install the update you must have an iPhone XR or newer. An iPhone SE 2020 or iPhone SE 2022 can also be updated. An overview of all iPhones that can be upgraded can be found in the list of iPhone models compatible with iOS 18.
