The next update for the iPhone is iOS 18.4, which brings two new functions to CarPlay. You can expect these changes!
iOS 18.4
Apple has released the first test versions of iOS 18.4! With the update, small changes come to your iPhone, so you get new emoji and extra buttons are added to the photos app. The following software version not only brings new functions to the iPhone, CarPlay is also improved. In both the first and the second beta of iOS 18.4, Apple has implemented changes at CarPlay.
With the first test version of iOS 18.4, the CarPlay screen is better used. With larger displays, the CarPlay home screen shows more applications. Where in iOS 18.3 and previously two rows of apps are displayed as standard, there are three from iOS 18.4. For that, the screen of the car must be large enough, it is not yet known from which dimensions three rows are visible. In any case, it is a handy change, because now you have more carPlay apps within reach.
More changes in CarPlay
A code in the second test version of iOS 18.4 reveals that Tesla Superchargers will be added to CarPlay. It is therefore easier to navigate to charging points for electric vehicles. With Apple cards it is already possible to plan routes with stopping places where you can charge an electric car. This function is not available at all cars, currently cars from Ford and Porsche are working with the EV routes in Apple cards.
If you use this feature, the battery charge of the car is kept in Apple cards. There it is calculated when the car has to be recharged, so that a charging point is automatically navigated. A number of Ford cars can be charged with Tesla Superchargers since last year, but these are not yet visible in Apple cards. That will change with iOS 18.4, because then the Tesla Supercharger will be added to Apple cards.
Release of iOS 18.4
Do you have an electric car from Ford? Then you will soon get a handy expansion, because Apple cards also record charging points with Tesla Superchargers. In this way many more charging points are added to cards and there are more options in planning EV routes. Ford had already indicated in January that the Tesla Superchargers would be added to Apple cards, with iOS 18.4 that seems to happen finally.
With iOS 18.4, CarPlay gets two small but useful functions. We still have to wait for the next iOS update. Apple will only release iOS 18.4 next month.
