iOS 18 beta 7 is out (and is likely the last test version)

There is a new test version of iOS 18 available! Apple has released iOS 18 beta 7 for developers. The test versions follow each other quickly, especially now that the official release of iOS 18 is just around the corner. No major changes have been discovered in the seventh beta of iOS 18, Apple has probably mainly implemented a number of improvements. It is therefore expected that the final version of iOS 18 is almost ready.

According to the usually reliable Apple expert Mark Gurman, that is already the case. He predicts that iOS 18 beta 7 will be the last test version we see before the official release. According to Gurman, Apple has already finished developing iOS 18, so there is no need to release a new beta. That is remarkable, because usually an eighth test version of a new iOS generation is released.

Is iOS 18 coming sooner?

It is quite possible that Apple will release iOS 18 a week earlier than previously expected. This has to do with the date of the iPhone 16 event, Apple is releasing the release candidate of iOS 18 on the same night as the event. It is still unclear when exactly the iPhone 16 event will take place, Apple has still not released an official invite.

Until now, it was thought that Apple would host the iPhone 16 event on Tuesday, September 10, but that day is now also the date of an election debate in the United States. Apple may therefore choose to hold the event on Tuesday September 3 or Wednesday September 4 In that case, it makes sense that iOS 18 beta 7 is the last test version, because the official release will follow soon.

Apple typically sends out the iPhone 16 event invites two weeks before the event, so we’ll have more clarity on the exact date later this week. Then we’ll also know whether iOS 18 beta 7 is indeed the final test version, or whether a new beta will be released after all. The official release of iOS 18 will probably follow a week after the iPhone 16 announcement, on Monday, September 9 or 16.
