iPados 19: These iPads can update (and not)

This year, iPados 19 is the update for the iPad, but unfortunately not all generations can update. This iPad has no support for the update.

iPados 19

At the WWDC, Apple traditionally announces the most important software versions of the year. In 2025, iPados 19 is the most important update for the iPad. According to rumors, it is a major update, with which Apple changes the design of iPados for the first time in years. The interface of the operating system takes over many elements from Visionos, the software developed especially for the Apple Vision Pro.

That’s not all, because a number of applications from the iPad get a new layout. In this way the camera app becomes completely different, with the transparent frameworks that we know from Visionos and a renewed menu. The Message app also gets new functions and the Health app is being expanded with a new health and fitness coach. Unfortunately, not all iPads receive support for the iPados 19.

These iPads get the update

Like every year, a number of tablets fall out of the release of a new generation of iPados. This is also the case with iPados 19, but luckily it is only one iPad. The seventh generation of the ‘normal’ iPad (2019) does not get the update, which is stuck on iPados 18 according to rumors. Do you want to know if you can update to the latest iPados version? These iPads get iPados 19:

  • iPad 2020 (eighth generation)
  • iPad 2021 (ninth generation)
  • iPad 2022 (tenth generation)
  • iPad 2025 (eleventh generation)
  • iPad Mini 2019 (fifth generation)
  • iPad Mini 2021 (sixth generation)
  • iPad Mini 2024 (seventh generation)
  • iPad Air 2019 (third generation)
  • iPad Air 2020 (fourth generation)
  • iPad Air 2022 (fifth generation)
  • iPad Air 2024 (sixth generation)
  • iPad Air 2025 (seventh generation)
  • iPad Pro 2018 (third generation)
  • iPad Pro 2020 (fourth generation)
  • iPad Pro 2021 (fifth generation)
  • iPad Pro 2022 (sixth generation)
  • iPad Pro 2024 (seventh generation)

Almost all iPads with iPados 18 can update to iPados 19 this year, with the exception of the iPad 2019. Yet not all these devices get the latest functions, because Apple Intelligence is becoming increasingly important for iPados. Only iPads with an A17 Pro or M chip have support for Apple Intelligence.
