The iPhone 15 still looks almost the same on the outside as previous generations, but internally it has been extensively modified. In this iPhone 15 teardown you will find out everything!
iPhone 15 teardown
When you look at the iPhone 15 at first glance, not much has changed. The Pro versions now have a titanium side and the regular versions a matte back. The colors are also different and the edges are rounded. But all these changes are quite minor and the iPhone still looks ‘as usual’.
Internally it’s a different story. According to various teardown videos of the iPhone 15, Apple has done a lot of tinkering on the inside. Watch the video below and you will see step-by-step what Apple has changed.
Repairing iPhone is still tedious
To test how easily parts can now be replaced in the iPhone 15, YouTuber iPhone Repair Guru swapped the motherboards of two iPhones. This way you can quickly see which parts you can and cannot replace. Both iPhones were an iPhone 15 Pro Max and ran iOS 17.

The iPhones worked after the switch, but soon notifications appeared on both iPhones. These were messages about the camera, Face ID, the battery and the screen. These reports stated that it was uncertain whether genuine Apple parts had been used in the switch (which of course they had).
After the change, the iPhones worked properly, but not all functions could still be used. All anti-repair measures that Apple had in previous versions of the iPhone are therefore still present.
Furthermore, TrueTone will not work after the iPhone 15 teardown and toggle unless the screen is reprogrammed. The automatic brightness also no longer worked. Face ID still worked after changing the motherboard. The YouTuber also saw no problems when replacing the glass at the back.

Front camera is now a headache
There is a problem with the front camera. After replacing the parts, the selfie camera stopped working and the camera app hung. This also happened with the iPhone 14, but a solution was to reset the iPhone.
Resetting the iPhone 15 made the camera app work again when you chose the selfie camera, but you still couldn’t take a selfie. It is not yet certain whether this is an error or whether Apple did it deliberately. It remains to be seen whether a solution will be found.
