iPhone 16 (Plus) is coming
Next month it will happen, because Apple will present the new generation of the iPhone. It is expected that we will see four new iPhones again this year. The iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max will be released in 2024. It is said that the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus in particular will get many new features, which we previously saw with the iPhone 15 Pro (Max). Here they are!

1. A18 chip with Apple Intelligence
The most important change in the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus is without a doubt Apple Intelligence. This is Apple’s latest software, which works with artificial intelligence. Almost all apps on your iPhone are expanded with AI functions, such as a handy writing aid and sending self-made emojis. These functions are said to come to all iPhone 16 models, including the iPhone 16 (Plus).
The new AI features will soon be available on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus thanks to the powerful A18 chip. That is a big difference with the iPhone 15, which still runs on the A16 Bionic chip. The features of Apple Intelligence require a lot of computing power, which is why the iPhone 15 (Plus) does not support AI. The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus do.
2. Action button
Last year we saw an action button for the first time on the iPhone. You determine which function the button gets. We saw this before with the action button of the Apple Watch Ultra. Apple only provided the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max with the action button, but it is expected that the feature will come to all iPhone 16 models this year. This means that the iPhone 16 (Plus) will also get an action button.
Where you needed Apple’s Shortcuts app to add more functions to the action button in iOS 17, that is no longer necessary in iOS 18. Apple is adding a range of new options, more than doubling the possibilities. The iPhone 16 (Plus) gets these functions out of the box, because the device runs on iOS 18 as standard. 3. Camera button
In addition to the action button, the iPhone 16 (Plus) will get another new button. According to rumors, Apple will introduce a camera button in all iPhone 16 models, in English the Capture Button called. The button gives you faster access to a number of camera functions on the iPhone 16 (Plus). For example, you can zoom in and out with the button and you can focus the image without touching the screen of your iPhone.
It is expected that you will not be able to physically press the new camera button. Instead, the button works with small vibration motors, which respond when you touch the button. We previously saw this technology on the iPhone 7, iPhone 8, iPhone SE 2020 and iPhone SE 2022. The button makes it easier to activate certain functions when you take photos or videos with the iPhone 16 (Plus).
4. Smaller camera island
The camera is not only easier to operate with the Capture Buttonwith the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus we also see a new function. It will soon be possible to make spatial videos with the regular iPhones. You can watch these films with the Apple Vision Pro for a special depth effect. It feels like you are in the middle of the video, which makes looking back at memories much more special.
To make spatial videos, the camera island of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus needs to be adjusted. On the iPhone 15 (Plus), the lenses are placed diagonally from each other, on the iPhone 16 (Plus) they are directly underneath each other. This is the first time in years that Apple has made changes to the placement of the cameras. Apart from the spatial videos, the new camera island probably does not bring any new features to the iPhone 16 (Plus).
5. Better battery
Another big change we expect with the iPhone 16 (Plus) is an improved battery. Apple is working on new battery features for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, which should allow for much longer battery life in the next iPhones. To achieve this, Apple is adjusting the design of the battery. The size of the battery will likely be smaller, especially in the larger iPhone 16 Plus.
The iPhone 16 will reportedly have a battery capacity of 3561 mAh, while the iPhone 16 Plus has a capacity of 4006 mAh. The iPhone 15 currently has a battery with 3349 mAh, while the iPhone 15 Plus has a capacity of 4383 mAh. Despite the smaller battery, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are expected to last much longer. This means you can perform more demanding functions with the iPhone 16 (Plus) without the battery percentage dropping very quickly.
Release of the iPhone 16 (Plus)
We don’t have to wait long for the iPhone 16 (Plus), because Apple is already releasing the phone next month. Then we will also know for sure which new functions are coming to the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus. The presentation of the new iPhones usually takes place in the second week of September.
