With the iPhone 16 series launching just over a month away, rumors are starting to pile up. The latest? The iPhone 16 Pro is getting Wi-Fi 7 support. Here’s why that’s exciting.
iPhone 16 Pro with Wifi 7
Of course, every new iPhone comes with improved hardware. For example, a new processor, a screen with more pixels and/or colors or a camera that takes even sharper images. At first, you would think that the processor is particularly important for the speed of the phone. Now, that chip is certainly not unimportant, but there is another factor that is at least as important.
Because what do you do most with your iPhone? Okay, okay, use apps. But what do those apps do? Use your internet connection. And that will be a lot faster on the iPhone 16 Pro, thanks to Wifi 7. That lets DigiTimes know.
Wifi 7 is blazing fast
Wi-Fi 7 allows devices to communicate simultaneously across the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands. This results in significantly faster Wi-Fi speeds, lower latency, and more reliable connections. The theoretical maximum speed of Wi-Fi 7 is over 40 Gbps, which is approximately four times faster than the current Wi-Fi 6E standard.

There is a catch, however, because to achieve those speeds, you obviously need a router that supports Wifi 7. There aren’t that many of them yet, but there’s a good chance that if Apple embraces the technology, other brands will quickly follow suit.
And what about the regular iPhone 16?
By the way, it seems that only the Pro line will get support for Wifi 7. In that case, the regular iPhone 16 would be stuck on Wifi 6E. Fortunately, there are enough other things where the standard model is just as good as the more expensive one. For example, it is likely that the two variants will get a powerful A18 chip and that both use a 48 MP sensor for all available lenses. So there is still plenty to look forward to.
