Although Apple reveals the new iPhone series on September 9, new rumors are still appearing, this time about the iPhone 17 battery.
iPhone 17 battery is getting much better
We already wrote on 5 September that the battery of the iPhone 17 will probably last a lot longer. Now, at the last minute of the ‘Awe Dropping’ event, a new rumor has appeared on the batteries of the new iPhone 17 series.

Battery capacities of the iPhone 17 series
The rumor comes from X user Shrimwho announces the battery capacities for all four iPhone 17 models. If you see two values, then that is respectively for versions without and with a physical SIM card.
- iPhone 17: 3692 MAH (3.6% higher than that of the iPhone 16).
- iPhone 17 Air: 3149 MAH/3036 MAH (48% lower than that of the iPhone 16 Plus).
- iPhone 17 Pro: 4252 MAH/3988 MAH (up to 18.6% higher than that of the iPhone 16 Pro).
- iPhone 17 Pro Max: 5088 MAH/4823 MAH (up to 8.6% higher than that of the iPhone 16 Pro Max).
With the iPhone 17 Air, the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max, Apple seems to finally use the extra space that arises when an iPhone only supports Esim. There is then room for around 5% more battery capacity than in devices with a physical SIM card.
According to ShrimPapplepro, the battery of the iPhone 17 has only one value. It is possible that this version does not offer a longer battery life for users with ESIM only. This is possible because the iPhone 17 has largely the same design as the iPhone 16.

The advantage of Esim-only
It is great that Apple will now use that extra space. Previously, Apple just placed a rubber block on the spot where the SIM card slot was first. Apple is also expanding the Esim-only iPhone 17 models to extra regions this year, so that is probably the reason why the company now uses that space for the battery.
This is the advantage of Esim-only iPhones in relation to their physical SIM opposers:
- iPhone 17 Air: 3.7% extra capacity.
- iPhone 17 Pro: 6.6% extra capacity.
- iPhone 17 Pro Max: 5.5% extra capacity.
The question is always whether such rumors are completely correct. Fortunately we don’t have to wait long for that because Apple is already presenting the new iPhones on September 9. If you don’t want to miss anything, sign up for our newsletter!
