The release of the iPhone 17 is coming! Apple only presents the following iPhone in September, but rumors already know a lot about the new device. It is expected that the iPhone 17 will get two upgrades, which users have been waiting for for years. Both the screen and the front camera get much better with the regular iPhone of 2025. 1. 24-megapixel camera
According to rumors, the front camera receives a large upgrade with the iPhone 17. Where the current iPhones still have a 12-megapixel camera on the front, it will be a 24-megapixel camera with the iPhone 17. That means that the photos and videos with the front camera will be much sharper. In addition, the new camera has less difficulty with little light, making the photos and videos less grainy.
No changes are expected on the back with the iPhone 17. The phone gets a 48-megapixel main camera and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide angle lens. We already saw the same lenses with the iPhone 16 (Plus) and the iPhone 15 (Plus). The design of the cameras also remains the same. Apple is said to opt for a vertical camera island, where the lenses are placed directly under each other.
2. Always-on screen
The screen receives a large upgrade with the iPhone 17. Where the Always-on screen was an exclusive function for the Pro models for years, this will change with the iPhone 17. The iPhone 17 becomes the first regular model with promotion, which means that Always-on comes to the ‘normal’ iPhone for the first time. This is a major improvement, because that means that the screen will get a refresh rate of 120Hz.
The iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max were the first iPhones with Promotion. Advantages of a higher refresh speed are that animations run more smoothly and that the device has support for Always-on. With this function, the screen – as the name suggests – always remains on. This way time remains visible and you can always read notifications. This is a major upgrade, because this year you no longer need iPhone 17 Pro (Max) for an always-on screen.

It has been expected for years that the regular iPhones will receive support for promotion, which seems to be finally happening with the iPhone 17. That is also time, because many (cheaper) Android devices have had an Always-on screen for much longer. In 2025 this also applies to all new iPhone 17 models.
