iPhone and Apple Watch NFC features will soon get a lot smarter

It looks like the iPhone and Apple Watch will soon be able to perform multiple actions at once via NFC. Here’s what you need to know.

iPhone and Apple Watch get new NFC features

It NFC Forumthe organization surrounding the standard for Near Field Communication (NFC), recently announced a message published about a new technology called NFC Multi-Purpose Tap. This technology, which supports multiple actions with a single tap, is designed to make various NFC applications easier.

Apple is a prominent member of the NFC Forum and has probably even contributed to the development of the technology. Apple first introduced NFC in the iPhone 6 and in the first Apple Watch. NFC was initially focused on Apple Pay, which allowed users to make contactless payments. Much more is now possible with NFC on iPhones and Watches.

This can NFC Multi-Purpose Tap

NFC Multi-Purpose Tap should allow iPhone users to perform multiple actions at once with just a single tap. For example, consumers could make payments, register loyalty points and also receive receipts immediately.

The potential applications of the new technology are considerable. For example, users could pay for a journey on public transport with just one tap of their iPhone on the NFC terminal, apply discounts and receive receipts at the same time.

Given that Apple is a member of the NFC Forum, it seems highly likely that NFC Multi-Purpose Tap will come to both the iPhone and Apple Watch at some point. The company often adds support for new NFC features, such as reading NFC tags and enabling more interactions with a wider variety of NFC-enabled devices.
