Apple has big plans for the iPhone, which makes the smartphone completely different within three years. You can expect this!
Completely new iPhones
There are major changes for the iPhone! Where the smartphone has always had small adjustments in the design in recent years, the design of the following iPhones will be completely different. According to rumors, we can expect several iPhones over the next three years, which have been completely redesigned. Are you curious about which devices are those? 1. 2025
In a few months we will already see the first iPhone with a completely new design. Apple works on the iPhone 17 Air, which is said to be the thinnest iPhone ever. The iPhone 17 Air has a thickness of only 5.6 millimeters, compared to 7.83 Millimeter at the iPhone 16. This will be Apple’s first iPhone in a long time, which looks completely different from previous iPhones. This is the complete line-up for September 2025:
- iPhone 17;
- iPhone 17 Air;
- iPhone 17 Pro;
- iPhone 17 Pro Max.
2. 2026
This year we are already seeing a completely new iPhone, but that is only the beginning. In 2026 the iPhone 18 Fold, the first foldable smartphone from Apple, appears. It is expected that the iPhone Fold will get a 7.8-inch display and a 5.5-inch screen. The screen size is comparable to the iPad Mini 2024, if the iPhone Fold is open. These are all iPhones that Apple will probably release in 2026:
- iPhone 17th;
- iPhone 18 Air;
- iPhone 18 Pro;
- iPhone 18 Pro Max;
- iPhone 18 fold.
With the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max, major changes are also expected. These will probably be the first iPhones without Dynamic Island. Where the current iPhones still have a Dynamic Island with the front camera and Face ID sensor, this is no longer necessary with the iPhone 18 Pro (Max). The Face ID sensor disappears under the screen, leaving a small black notch for the front camera.
3. 2027
In 2027, according to rumors, Apple goes even one step further. That year no fewer than six (!) IPhones appear, because the regular iPhone 18 and the iPhone 18th only come out in the spring. These devices will probably receive a new processor and improved camera. We see larger changes with the iPhone 19 series, which will appear later in 2027. These are all iPhones that are planned for that year:
- iPhone 18;
- iPhone 18th;
- iPhone 19 Air;
- iPhone 19 Pro;
- iPhone 19 Pro Max;
- iPhone 19 fold.
The iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max have a cancellation in the screen, for the front camera of the device. With the iPhone 19 Pro and the iPhone 19 Pro Max, that is no longer necessary, because the front camera disappears under the screen there. That means that the iPhone 19 Pro (Max) becomes the first iPhone, the front of which consists completely of display. Apple probably provides the iPhone 19 Fold with a smaller hardware update.

Within three years, the iPhone looks completely different than we are used to at the moment. Apple is working on the thinnest iPhone ever, the first foldable iPhone and on iPhones without Dynamic Island or other notch in the screen. In any case, it is almost certain that we will ever see the thinnest iPhone this year. The foldable iPhone has been expected for years, so it remains to be seen whether a release will be feasible for Apple in 2026.
Completely new devices have often been postponed by Apple, because the hardware (or software) was not yet in order. It is therefore quite possible that the first iPhone Fold will eventually appear until 2027 or later. Three years is a long time, in which a lot can change.
