Does the screen of your iPhone not go out, even if you have pressed the side button? That has a reason. But with this tip the screen does go out.
IPhone screen never goes out (and you solve it that way)
Since the iPhone 14 Pro, the iPhone has received a new feature that ensures that the screen never really goes out completely. The iPhone owners who buy a pro model for the very first time is sometimes quite a surprise.

The function that does this is the Always on-screen. This shows your iPhone the time (and the background) if you have not used or lock the iPhone. If you prefer not to, you can partially or even completely switch off option. You can read how you do that exactly in the steps below.
Always-on turn off on the iPhone
- Open the ‘Settings’ app on your iPhone;
- Scroll down and choose ‘screen and brightness’;
- Tap the ‘Attijd’ option;
- Turn off the sliding buttons to switch off your screen when your iPhone is locked.
Instead of turning off all the options of the iPhone screen, you can also choose to show the time in the above steps if you have locked the iPhone. In that case you set up the option at ‘Always on’ on and with ‘Toon background’.
iPhone with always on-screen
Only the pro models have an always on screen. These are the iPhone 14 Pro, the iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Do you not yet have an iPhone with such a screen and would you really like to buy one? Then check our price overview for the iPhone 16 Pro. Then you have Apple’s newest iPhone with the screen that remains ‘always’.
