Apple has officially announced the new iPhone SE 2022. The device has a well-known design; the biggest changes are hidden under the hood.
Official: this is the iPhone SE 2022
After months of speculation, we finally know what it really is: the new iPhone SE. Apple announced the device at its ‘Peek performance’ event. The smartphone once again focuses on the budget segment. That means that you have a brand new iPhone for little money.

Design iPhone SE 2022: the same, but different
The new iPhone SE has a design that we already know well. The device looks exactly the same as its predecessor, the iPhone SE 2020. With its 4.7-inch screen, the new SE is nice and compact. The smartphone has a glass front, made of the same glass as the iPhone 13. The back is made of extra sturdy glass with aluminum edges.
Apple has chosen to give the device a fresh look despite its repurposed design. The manufacturer does this by releasing the new SE in different colors than its predecessor. The iPhone SE 2022 is available in three colors: midnight blue, starlight and Product(RED).
A15 chip races through everything
Do you game a lot, or do other intensive tasks, such as editing videos? The iPhone SE 2022 knows how to handle it thanks to its powerful A15 chip. Apple has ‘borrowed’ the chip from the much more expensive iPhone 13 series. In terms of speed, the iPhone SE 2022 is a real winner. The chip is also more energy efficient, so that the battery of the iPhone SE 2022 lasts longer.
Hello, 5G!
We had to wait a while, but the iPhone SE now finally has support for 5G internet. 5G is a lot faster than 4G. So it’s a welcome addition – and it makes the iPhone SE 2022 a lot more future-proof.
Unfortunately, we cannot yet use the even faster mmWave-5G in the Netherlands. This is because the Dutch government has not yet released the required faster bandwidths. However, that does not mean that the Dutch 5G is slow – the speedboost compared to the ‘old-fashioned’ 4G is considerable.
Camera: still one lens, but a better one
The iPhone SE 2022 still has a single lens on the back. However, this is not the same camera as its predecessor. Because it now supports the photographic styles and Smart HDR 4 with Deep Fusion. Until now, only the ‘real’ iPhones had that.

Are you going to get the new iPhone SE? Then get ready for next Friday†Then the iPhone SE goes into pre-order. Anyone who is quick to find a device can then tap the head. You will then have the device at home about a week later. However, it has become a bit more expensive. The prices are 40 euros higher than with the old model. The iPhone SE now starts at €529. Storage variants with 64, 128 or 256 GB are available.
Think carefully about how much space you need. 64 GB of storage space is pretty tight in 2022. Do you plan to take a lot of photos and videos and install a lot of apps. Then consider spending a little more money and going for the 256 GB model.
