You might expect Apple’s 30W charger to be the best buy. However, it is better to use a 20 W charger for your iPhone.
Is a 30W charger for your iPhone worth it?
The iPhone 15’s USB-C port can technically go up to 27 watts, but efficiency decreases at charging speeds higher than 20 watts. In the video below you can see what this means in practice.
The conclusion of this test is that with a 30 W charger you save about 10 minutes on fully charging an iPhone 15 Pro Max compared to the 20 W charger. Then we are talking about 2 hours 11 minutes versus 2 hours 21 minutes.
We recommend a 20W charger for your iPhone
Yes, charging with a 30 W charger is indeed faster than with a 20 W charger. But over the entire charging time, the difference is actually negligible. For that reason, in our opinion it is a better idea to choose a smaller 20 W charger.
The 20 W charger performs almost the same, is smaller and therefore easier to take with you. Moreover, Apple’s small charger is almost half cheaper than the 30 W charger (25 euros vs 45 euros). In our opinion, a 30 W charger for your iPhone is not worth it!
