(Electric) successor Fiat 500X caught
The Fiat 500e is currently the only fully electric Fiat passenger car that you can buy in the Netherlands. But it won’t stay that way for long! The fashionable EV will probably get a completely new model next to it this year, which will also include an electric version. We are talking about the successor to the Fiat 500X, a car that could just be called 600.
A lot has changed at Fiat in ten years. For example, it still builds the Fiat 500, but the 500 family now consists of the mild-hybrid 500 Hybrid, the fully electric and technically completely different 500e from that car and a crossover called 500X. That 500X is definitely not a youngster anymore. Fiat has now been part of Stellantis for a while and so there are also Fiat models that are technical brothers of cars from brands such as Peugeot and Citroën. This turnaround is already underway in Fiat commercial vehicles and soon you will also encounter Stellantis technology, which is well-known among Fiat passenger cars. And probably soon!
Earlier this year, Fiat indicated that it will present not one, but two completely new electric models this year. We can already show you the first pictures of one of those two newcomers today. Those plates show a test model wrapped in psychedelic camouflage material that is clearly a compact crossover on which Fiat has poured the necessary design elements of the 500s. The contours of the round headlights are already visible through the decals and the entire rear is reminiscent of those of models from the 500 family. Just look at the rear lights and the ‘canopy’ above where the license plate gets a spot.
The new compact crossover will most likely replace the Fiat 500X. After all, that crossover has been running since 2014 and was facelifted more than four years ago. The new crossover from Fiat undoubtedly shares its GMP base with compact crossovers from Stellantis such as the DS 3, Peugeot 2008, Opel Mokka and Car of the Year 2023 Jeep Avenger. There is a fully electric version of those models and of course the successor to the Fiat 500X will also receive it. In any case, count on a 54 kWh battery pack and a 156 hp powerful electric motor, together good for a range of about 400 kilometers. In addition, the car – which according to Italian media may be called 600 – will be available with (mild-hybrid) 1.2 PureTech petrol engines and diesel machines, depending on the market.
