Kia breaks US sales record

Kia breaks US sales record

While the entire car world is struggling with (chip) shortages, Kia casually breaks its own ‘all-time’ sales record in the United States. More Kias were sold there in 11 months than in a whole year in 2016.

From January to November 2021, Kia sold 652,910 vehicles in the United States, the brand reports. The old record dates back to 2016, when the American branch of Kia sold 647,598 cars in 12 months.

In addition, the source reports, these are now much more expensive and profitable models than then. Where in 2016 a lot of compact Rio’s, Souls, Forte’s (C-segment) and Optima’s were sold, it is now mainly about SUVs. The very large Sorento and Telluride by European standards were the most popular, with the latter reportedly in short supply due to high demand. Kia is expected to wear out a total of around 700,000 more cars by 2021, further raising the sales record.
