Kia says how it will further roll out its electric range in the next few years. A lot is coming, because in five years there will be eleven different EVs in the showroom.
Kia is doing well with its all-electric cars, because in the first quarter of 2020, the brand achieved record sales in the field of EVs. In the first three months of this year, 6 percent (+ 75 percent) of all Kia sales in Europe were electric cars, and in the Netherlands this percentage was almost three times higher, at 17 percent (+ 67 percent). However, the brand says it is far from there, because it now announces that the electric range is being expanded considerably.
By 2025, Kia wants to have eleven different all-electric models driving around the world. At the moment it has two EVs: the e-Soul and e-Niro. The nine new models have to operate in different segments, including that of – how could it be otherwise – SUVs and surprisingly those of the MPVs. The first newcomer to present Kia promises to be an all-new crossover. It is on a brand new EV platform and will have a design that “brings the boundaries between passenger cars and SUVs closer together”. We are aiming for a Kia scion that shares its genes with the recently snapped production version of the Hyundai “45”. The Kia has a range of more than 500 kilometers and can be charged extra quickly. The brand promises a fast charge charging time of less than 20 minutes. The battery is then charged to 80 percent again. This new Kia will initially only be introduced in Europe.
More models will follow at a rapid pace from 2022, but Kia says nothing about it for the time being. However, the brand says that from now on every new model in Europe will get at least one electrified variant. This can be a mild hybrid, full hybrid, plug-in hybrid or full electric version. All of these new plans should ensure that Kia is expected to sell 500,000 EVs per year by 2026. In Europe, the share of EVs sold must have increased to 20 percent.
