Lamborghini shows in a teaser video that it is working on one of its classics. If we take all the hints together, we arrive at the reincarnation of the prototype that preceded the Countach: the Countach LP 500 from 1971.
2021 is an important year for the Lamborghini Countach. Not only were we recently presented with a modern incarnation of the Countach, but it’s also been 50 years since we got the first sign of life from the ancient Countach. Whoever thought that party with the new Countach was already celebrated is wrong
In the video below, Lamborghini hints that it has been working on a classic that “paved the way into the future 50 years ago.” Especially the seat cover that can be seen next is a strong hint that one should talk about the Countach LP 500. The prototype that was shown to the general public in March 1971 in Geneva. The first incarnation of the Countach, already very recognizable as the production Countach, only it lacked, among other things, the large air scoops on the back.
How exactly Lamborghini brings the Countach LP 500 back to life is still exciting. In 1974 the prototype was used for a crash test (intended for homologation of the production Countach) and after that the bright yellow LP 500 was scrapped. Lamborghini may have transformed another Countach into the LP 500, or there may be a little more left of the prototype than is currently believed. No doubt we will get clarity soon.
