Shooting with V10 at Porsche 911 Dakar
Lamborghini waves off the combustion engine without any form of electrical assistance in a special way. Meet the Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato, a Huracán-with-mountain boots with which the Italians shoot the Porsche 911 Dakar with live ammunition.
The Lamborghini Huracán is naturally already a car with which you do not exactly go through life anonymously. With the extra fierce Huracáns Tecnica and STO you are already completely in the spotlight, but there is now a version that manages to attract the attention of even those sporty top versions. This is the Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato, a raised and overloaded with cross-elements Huracán that you should also be able to enjoy off the asphalt.
Porsche recently introduced a limited and high-legged version of the 911 with the 911 Dakar and Lamborghini now also has such a model. Just like the 911 Dakar, the new Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato is built in a relatively small edition. There are even fewer of them than the 911 Dakar. Where Porsche will produce 2,500 copies of the 911 Dakar, Lamborghini will only screw together 1,499 Huracáns Sterrato.
Off-road fun costs speed
There is another similarity between the Porsche 911 Dakar and the Huracán Sterrato. Just like the 911 Dakar, the Huracán Sterrato does not have the most powerful engine that is available in the low sister models. The Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato namely has the 610 hp and 560 Nm strong version of the 5.2 V10 that also serves in the rear-wheel drive Huracáns Evo. However, you are not shy about impressive performance. The Huracán Sterrato stomps to a speed of 100 km / h in 3.4 seconds and accelerates to 200 km / h in 9.8 seconds. The top speed of the adventurous Huracán is considerably lower than that of its brothers and sisters. It doesn’t run 310 km/h like the STO or even 325 km/h like the Huracáns Evo, but ‘only’ 260 km/h. Behind the 19-inch wheels with around it run flat-Bridgestone All Terrain tires hide carbon ceramic brake discs. Lamborghini has adapted the Strada and Sport driving modes to the different character of the Huracán Sterrato and even gives the car a real Rally mode.
The Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato is the production version of the concept car of the same name that Lamborghini presented in 2019. It is equipped with hefty black plastic attachments on the wheel arches that make the car a lot wider than the original. We also see extra black plastic in the bumpers and things such as an extra set of LED lamps and roof racks are also present. Lamborghini adds aluminum skid plates to the underside of the Huracán Sterrato and places an air scoop high above the tailgate that should be able to draw in air somewhat free of dust. The suspension travel of the Sterrato is successively 3 and 3.4 centimeters greater at the front and rear than that of the Huracáns, which only feel at home on the asphalt. The interior is filled with special alcantara and as a driver you not only have a view of an altimeter, but also of geographical coordinates and meters that indicate inclination and steering angles.
In February, the first Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato will roll off the assembly line in Sant’Agata Bolognese. We don’t know a starting price yet.
Goodbye
The Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato, whose version name means something like ‘unpaved’ in Italian, is the last new car from Lamborghini that still has a petrol engine without electrical assistance. In 2024, all Lamborghinis must have a (mild) hybrid powertrain, which means that the Huracán Sterrato at the brand heralds the end of the traditional combustion engine that runs entirely on its own petrol power.
