Lamborghini has posted a photo on the social media of Squadra Corse, the brand’s racing department, with the cryptic caption ‘Attenzione macchina veloce aperta’. It looks like a successor to the one-off Aventador J is in the works to compete with roadsters like the Ferrari Monza, McLaren Elva and Aston Martin V12 Speedster.
There is as yet no more information than the image that Squadra Corse has released on social media. Even the name on it does not have to be final, it is just what is on the side of the strikingly stickered prototype. After all, the Essenza SCV12 prototype had almost the same print and designation. However, this prototype looks less extreme and looks more like the Aventador, where the placement of the exhausts is more reminiscent of the Huracán Performante. ‘Less extreme’ is of course relative, because we still see significant spoiler work and a ditto diffuser on the roadster. Furthermore, it is not yet known whether this is a road-legal car or whether it – just like the SCV12 – may only be used on the circuit.
Windshield-less two-seaters seem to be a trend among supercar manufacturers. We mentioned the McLaren Elva, Ferrari Monza and Aston Martin V12 Speedster for a while, but let’s not forget the SLR Stirling Moss from a time ago. Lamborghini also has the necessary experience with this type of car. Who still remembers the Gallardo Concept S? More recently, the Sant’Agata Bolognese manufacturer built the Aventador J; a one-off unveiled at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. With the Squadra Corse teaser, it seems that this chapter will be continued. More concrete details will follow later.
