The first fully electric Lamborghini is still a long way off. Only at ‘the end of this decade’ will the brand with the bull introduce its first EV. People in Sant’Agata Bolognese are still quite cryptic about the shape of that car.
“A four-seat SUV with coupé styling that nods to the tradition of grand tourersa Lamborghini spokeswoman told the news agency Reuters about the still shrouded EV of the exclusive brand. That is a broad description that still leaves enough to the imagination, but at least Lamborghini now confirms that its first EV will be an SUV-like one. Lamborghini previously showed a teaser photo of that ‘fourth model’, which will be separate from the rest of the line-up. That car had a low roofline, but the way the virtual canvas hung on the ground made it seem higher on its wheels. The model should be on the market at the end of this decade.
Lamborghini’s confirmation is somewhat striking because CEO Stephan Winkelmann previously stated that the electric Lamborghini would be a 2+2, but ‘not necessarily a car in the spirit of the Urus’. The latter indicated that the electric bull would not become an SUV, but more of a model in the spirit of the Estoque. That now seems to have been partially debunked. Perhaps the plug-in Lambo will become a kind of Estoque that stands higher on its wheels. Time will tell.
All in all, it will take a while before the first electric Lamborghini is available. Until then, Lamborghini is engaged in electrification under the strategic flag ‘Direzione Cor Tauri’. This means that from 2024 Lamborghini will only have electrified cars in its program, so mild and plug-in hybrids.
