Special combination
Certain things in the car world seem difficult to reconcile. Think ‘Hummer’ and ‘electric’ and ‘spyder’ and ‘Land Rover Defender. An electric GMC Hummer has been around for a while now. And that Land Rover Defender that is an open two-door spyder? It just comes.
Kahn Design enjoys almost nothing more than converting Land Rover models. Sometimes the Land Rovers carved and sawn by the company are quite subtle, other times quite extreme. Today the company is looking ahead to a converted Land Rover that clearly belongs in the latter category. Kahn Design announces the arrival of an open Land Rover Defender with two seats.
Land Rover itself does not supply an open version of the current Defender, which prompted Heritage Customs to remove the roof of the Defender itself earlier this year. Now Kahn Design also does that, but in a completely different way. While the Dutch-made open Defender simply retains its back seat, the Kahn Design variant is a two-seater. The English call their creation the Flying Huntsman 90 Spyder.
According to Kahn Design, it takes six months to convert a regular Defender 90 into a Flying Huntsman Spyder. The car has a rear deck under which the fabric roof can be stored. You will also find a luggage compartment under that rear section that, according to Kahn Design, is on par with that of a non-converted Defender 90. Eight Flying Huntsman 90 Spyders are produced every year. The first of these should be ready in the second quarter of next year. What does the joke cost? Undoubtedly quite a bit, but Kahn Design does not reveal exactly how much.
