‘Large Alfa Romeo is being developed in the US’

Not decided on body shape yet

‘Large Alfa Romeo is being developed in the US’

Striking news from Alfa Romeo: the brand is going to develop the new, larger model that should appear in 2027 in the US.

The large Alfa was already announced earlier. Jean-Phillipe Imparato was not enigmatic about that introduction year, because his style does not seem enigmatic. That may also explain why Reuters can say that the car, which is still in its early stages of development, has to be developed in the United States.

That is striking, since Alfas are traditionally as Italian as risotto. However, the decision would have been made to match the design of the car as closely as possible to the wishes of customers outside Europe, for which such a larger model is pre-eminently intended. This step would also allow Alfa to better profile itself as a premium brand within the very international Stellantis group.

Little is known about the car itself. Alfa Romeo wants to supply only electric cars in Europe and the US from 2027, so that is obvious. According to Imparato, no decision has yet been made about the body shape. It is clear that it should not be a purebred, large SUV like the BMW X5 and X6. “We want to find the right mix,” says the Alfa CEO. It therefore seems likely that a crossover-like model will soon appear, a model that combines the elongated body of a sedan with the greater ground clearance of an SUV.

Alfa Romeo has just started a major revolution. The first piece of evidence is the compact Tonale, but a new Alfa Romeo should appear every year for the next few years.
