A large gap in Windows 10 ensures that malware can easily enter your PC. It is therefore important to update your PC as quickly as possible.
A gap in Windows 10 ensures that attackers can create malware that Windows (and applications such as antivirus software) regard as safe software. Malware makers can offer their dangerous software as, for example, an update of legitimate software, apparently digitally signed by the original manufacturer. As a result, security devices regard a dangerous update as safe.
The first exploits are expected to appear this week, with which attackers can abuse the gap. Microsoft has released an update on the first Patch Tuesday of 2020 that solves the problem and ensures that the vulnerable cryptographic component is replaced by a version that must be watertight.
The American intelligence service NSA discovered this gap and informed Microsoft. This is striking, because the service usually keeps an eye on things to gain access to systems itself. That gives an indication of how big this gap is: if another party discovered this and secretly abused it, it would have major consequences worldwide.
Security investigators, the NSA, Microsoft and other experts recommend that you update your system urgently. To do this, go to Settings > Update and security and search for the latest updates.
