BMW is expanding the line-up of the 3-series and 4-series with the absolute top versions: the M3 and the M4. The official debut will take place one of these days, but unfortunately for BMW, the first photos of the two powerhouses have already appeared online.
The first images of the new BMW M3 and M4 have appeared on the Instagram page Carswithoutlimits today. The M3 wears a special green paint, while the M4 in these leaked photos has a yellow color that resembles the famous Dakar Gelb with a little imagination. The distinct grille of the 4 Series, with its kidneys covering the entire height of the nose, is also used on the M3. Remarkably, the regular 3-series has a different front. We saw something similar earlier with the M3 of generation E90 (two generations ago), which sedan then got a nose that was comparable to that of the then current 3-series coupé. Furthermore, the well-known M formula has been poured out over the two models: we see heavy bumper work, extra elements on the front fenders, side mirrors placed on two sticks and a diffuser that is accompanied by dual exhaust pipes on both sides. In time, BMW will expand the M range with an M3 version of the 3-series Touring. That is the first time.
BMW has previously reported what lies in the nose of the new M duo. Under the hood is a 480 hp 3.0 six-in-line housed, a machine that is considerably more powerful than the six-cylinder in the previous generations M3 and M4. The previous M4 was good for 450 hp as a Competition. The new M versions also come with extra potent Competition versions, all-surpassing variants that will deliver 510 hp and 650 Nm. The M3 and M4 have a manual six-speed gearbox in 480 hp strong ‘basic trim’. The Competition models are always equipped with an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission. Basically, the new M3 and M4 are rear-wheel drive, but variants with xDrive all-wheel drive are coming.
