Lexus has pulled the curtain on the J201 Concept, an adventurously dressed version of the LX 570. The LX 570 naturally stands its ground next to the asphalt, but this J201 Concept goes one step further.
Just a quick look back, because what is a Lexus LX570 again? The LX is, just like the GX, one of the SUVs from Lexus that we do not actually know in the Netherlands. The current generation LX entered the North American market in 2007, and is, just like its predecessors, in fact Lexus’ variant of the Toyota Land Cruiser. Then you should not think of the Toyota that is so called in the Netherlands. Our Land Cruiser is called Land Cruiser Prado in many parts of the world to distinguish it from its larger real Land Cruiser brother. Until a few years ago, that larger Land Cruiser, currently the J200 / 201, was for sale in our country as a Land Cruiser V8. Lexus came out with the first LX in 1995 to meet the American demand for just that little bit more off-road convenience and now the current model has been running for thirteen years. That doesn’t bother Lexus at all, based on the LX 570, Lexus comes with this J201!
The J201 Concept, whose name is a reference to the internal code of the LX570, has an up to 550 hp variant of the 5.7-liter V8 under the hood that produces 380 hp in the normal LX. Thanks to a lift kit, the J201 Concept stands a lot higher on its legs and is equipped with things such as special bumpers that can take a beating, an extra light bar and a snorkel. If you get stuck despite the heavy off-road rubber, the winch incorporated in the muzzle will undoubtedly help to get the monster loose again. More adjustments? Hell yes. How about extra powerful brakes, a roof rack and a spare wheel on the bottom, complete with ladder to get to the roof? The special LX is, among other things, equipped with skid plates that not only protect the differential, but also the fuel tank against beech from below. In addition, the luggage compartment of the L201 is filled with a set of drawers where all kinds of tools can be stored.
Will the L201 go into production? No, but it is a nice showcase of what you can do with your luxurious monster SUV.
