There is a major update for CarPlay available! With iOS 26 not only many changes come to your iPhone, CarPlay is also expanded with new functions. In addition to all new features, the operating system for the car also receives an adapted design. Apple introduces Liquid Glass, giving CarPlay much more transparent frameworks and transparent elements. That is also reflected in the symbols of all apps in CarPlay, because you can adjust them for the first time.
The CarPlay home screen has been looking the same for years. When starting CarPlay you immediately see a number of rows with applications, such as messages and Apple cards. You could never adjust the symbols of these applications in CarPlay, but iOS 26 finally changes that. In the new software version you decide what the icons of all apps look like, where you have the choice of different views.
This way you adjust all the symbols
Do you regularly use CarPlay? Then we have good news, because you can set the symbols of all apps from iOS 26 to your personal preference. In iOS 26 you can choose from three views, the symbols have a standard, dark and clear display. Are you curious about how to adjust the icons of applications in CarPlay? You can set the symbols as follows:
- Get in your car and connect your iPhone to CarPlay;
- Open ‘settings’ in CarPlay;
- Go to ‘adapted symbols’;
- Finally, choose ‘Standard’, ‘Dark’ or ‘Clear’.
When setting up the symbols of all apps in CarPlay, have you opted for a dark or clear view? In that case you can also set that the applications automatically switch between a dark and light mode. This way you see a light mode during the day, but CarPlay automatically changes to the dark display in the evening. This is advisable if you regularly drive in the dark, so that the CarPlay screen is not too bright with little ambient light.
