Look up messages in Mail on Windows 10

Looking for a particular email within Mail on Windows 10? Then stop looking at your messages in Inbox one by one. It can be much easier!

Mail is the default e-mail program in Windows 10. With Mail, you can add and manage all kinds of mail accounts. Handy if you use multiple email addresses. Anyone who e-mails a lot can have a huge list of messages in the Inbox. Searching for a specific e-mail then becomes time-consuming.

Scrolling through the list of messages takes a long time. Looking up an e-mail via the search function is much faster and easier. How to use the search function:

  • Click on the Start button and scroll to the Mail app.
  • Click on it Inbox if not selected.
  • You will see the newest emails at the top, the rest will follow below.
  • At the very top is a bar with the word ‘Search’ and a magnifying glass next to it. Click in the search bar.
  • Type one or more keywords, such as a name or a subject.
  • Press Enter.
  • All emails containing the search term are now listed below each other. The search term is highlighted in yellow in the results. This makes it easier to find the message. Click on a hit to open the email. You will see the message on the right.
  • Found what you’re looking for? Click on the cross in the search bar. The search term is deleted. You will see all emails again.

This is how you search all mailboxes and folders in Windows Mail.
