MacBook Air 2024 gets an upgrade
Apple has not released all new Macs this month, an existing Mac has also received an update. The MacBook Air 2024 now comes standard with 16 GB of RAM. That’s a small upgrade, because the original version of the MacBook Air 2024 still had 8 GB of RAM. This version has now been deleted by Apple, so you can only choose 16 GB or 24 GB of RAM for the laptop.
The new iMac, Mac mini and MacBook Pro are also available with at least 16 GB of RAM. That means the end of an era at Apple, because you can no longer choose a Mac with 8 GB of RAM. Fortunately, we do not see the upgrade in the starting price of the MacBook Air 2024, because it remains the same. You can get the new MacBook Air for €1,149. That’s good news, because you now get more RAM for the same price.
More RAM required for Apple Intelligence
It is not surprising that Apple has chosen to double the RAM on the standard model of the MacBook Air. The company is preparing for the arrival of Apple Intelligence. The new technology will be available in the European Union from April 2025 and can already be used in the United States. Reason enough for Apple to provide the MacBook Air 2024 with a small upgrade, because many AI functions are run locally on the Mac.
This requires a lot of computing power and working memory. The computing power is good with the MacBook Air 2024, the device runs on the M3 chip. All devices with an M1 chip or newer have support for Apple Intelligence. Now that the RAM of the MacBook Air 2024 has been upgraded, heavy tasks can be processed locally on the device without any problems. This way you don’t have to wait long when loading Apple Intelligence functions.
Prices of the MacBook Air 2024
Apple has given the MacBook Air 2024 a small upgrade, but has not reflected that change in the price. At Apple you pay 1599 euros for the laptop, you get 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage space. Don’t you think that’s enough? Then you can also opt for a version with 512 GB of storage space and 16 GB of RAM, which costs 1829 euros from Apple. For the variant with 24 GB RAM you pay no less than 2059 euros.
