Housing

As the name suggests, the chassis of the MacBook Air 2025 is thinner and lighter than that of the MacBook Pro 2025. The 13-inch version of the Air measures 30.41×21.5×1.13 cm and weighs 1.24 kg. For the 15-inch version this is 34.04×23.76×1.15 cm and 1.51 kg, and for the MacBook Pro it is 31.26×22.12×1.55 cm and 1.55 kg. The 13-inch MacBook Air is by far the smallest and lightest, the MacBook Pro is the thickest and heaviest. This is probably important if you want to take your MacBook with you often.

Furthermore, the Air has 2 USB C ports and the Pro 3. The Pro also has an HDMI port and a card slot (SDXC). All MacBooks have a button with Touch ID.

Screen

To start with, there is of course a difference in size, which means different screen resolutions. The 13-inch Air has a resolution of 2560 x 1664 pixels, the 15-inch Air has a resolution of 2880 x 1864 pixels and the 14-inch Pro has a resolution of 3024 x 1964 pixels.

Furthermore, the Air has a Liquid Retina screen and the Pro has a Liquid Retina XDR screen. Liquid Retina is an improved screen technology for LCD screens, with a wide color range and realistic colors. Liquid Retina XDR is a Retina screen with mini-LED technology. This display offers many of the same advantages as OLED, including deep blacks and high contrasts. The maximum brightness of the Air is also 500 nits, that of the Pro is 1000 nits.

Camera

This is a part that is not particularly important on a MacBook and that does not differ on these MacBooks. All versions have a 12MP Center Stage camera that is great for video calls.

Performance

Here we see larger differences. Thanks to the M4 chip, the Air is certainly a powerful laptop. However, the Pro is superior because of the M5 chip inside. With both MaBooks you can choose 16 GB, 24 GB or 32 GB of RAM. This makes both MacBooks very suitable for everyday use. If you plan to do a lot of video editing, for example, then the Pro with a lot of RAM is clearly preferable.

Battery

Here too we see a difference, although both MacBooks score well enough to go out with them for a day. The Air has a battery life of up to 18 hours, which is more than sufficient for most people. The Pro easily exceeds that with a battery life of up to 24 hours. That can be very useful, but generally it is more than you need.

Both the MacBook Air 2025 (both versions) and the MacBook Pro 2025 are fast, powerful laptops that will last you a long time. For home and garden use you cannot make a bad choice and it is a good idea to look at the price. If you go for the Air, it is a very personal decision as to which size suits you better. This probably plays a role in the extent to which you often have to take the laptop with you. If you plan to perform a lot of heavy tasks such as video editing, then you may be better off choosing the Pro. And preferably with some extra working memory!
