Make gif in WhatsApp

Send a nice homemade gif to someone via WhatsApp.

A gif is a type of moving image, or also a short video without sound. Gifs are extremely popular on social media. This way we can send these to each other via WhatsApp. People use them to express reactions and emotions. But just a nice animation of playing cats or grandchildren is also possible. WhatsApp has a gif database with existing gifs for this. But it is also possible to make your own. You do need a video for this. Use an existing video or record a video on the spot.

Make a gif in WhatsApp with a previously made video:

  • Open WhatsApp.
  • Tap the tab chats.
  • Tap the chat with the person you want to delight with a homemade gif.
  • Tap a paperclip icon > Gallery (Android) or the plus sign > Photo and video library (iOS).
  • Open the appropriate folder and select the video you want to make a gif from.
  • Tap the large play button in the center to watch the video.
  • Gifs are always short and can therefore last a maximum of six seconds. Shorten the video by dragging the sliders at the film strip to the left and/or right.
  • At the top right, tap GIF. Not visible? The video is then longer than six seconds.
  • The gif plays. Tap the send button.
