Many apps collect and share more data from you than you think. Do you want to prevent that? Then switch off this function!
Apps collect a lot of data
Do you have many different applications on your iPhone? Then there is a good chance that more information will be collected from you than you know. Almost all apps register certain information about you and your device. That is not only information if your name and e-mail address, but also personal information such as your user ID or the ID of your device. Collecting this information through applications is also called tracking.
Apps of course do not store this data from users without reason. Developers behind the applications use this information to show targeted advertisements. Advertisements are based on your interests and personal characteristics, so that you are more likely to tap the commercials. That is not the only thing, because developers can also choose to share this information with data dealers. In that case they earn money from your data.

Disable tracking
Do you want to better protect your data? In that case, Apple offers a handy function, because it is possible to disable tracking through applications. Since iOS 14 you can disable tracking requests for applications so that they do not collect personal information from you. Are you curious how you do that? In this way you prevent apps from collecting personal information:
- Open ‘settings’ on your iPhone;
- Go to ‘Privacy and Security’;
- Tap ‘tracking’;
- Turn off the switch ‘Stand Apps’ Tracking requests’.
Did you switch off the switch? Tracking requests of all applications will be automatically rejected in the future. This means that they do not have permission to collect and store certain data from you as standard. Developers behind these apps therefore do not get access to personal data and cannot resell them to data dealers. Turning off tracking is therefore one of the most important functions on your iPhone to switch off for your own safety.

With apps and websites
By switching off tracking requests, all data on your iPhone is slightly better protected. Do you also use other Apple devices, such as an iPad? Then you have to manually switch off tracking by apps on each device. You can find the function on the iPad in the same place as on the iPhone. Go to ‘Settings> Privacy and Security> Tracking’ and turn off the switch behind ‘Sta tracking requests from apps’.
Your activity is not only shielded for developers in applications, but also websites no longer have access to important information if your user ID and the ID of your device. This way you prevent apps and websites from collecting data. Did you find this tip handy and do you want to know more about your iPhone?
