The unveiling of the Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX is now really approaching: on January 3, the curtain of this concept car, which should mainly serve as a demonstration of the know how from Mercedes-Benz in the EV field. Markus Schäfer, Chief Operating Officer and member of the Executive Board of Mercedes-Benz, makes some exciting promises just before the unveiling of the Vision EQXX.
on LinkedIn Schäfer shared a new teaser image of the Vision EQXX with a whole piece of text as a cover letter. The image shows quite well what shape the LED headlights will take. A piece of the side of the EQXX can also be seen, on which side mirrors shine because of their absence. We already knew a number of details of the EQXX: first of all, the EV must be able to cover more than 1,000 kilometers on a single battery charge. Earlier, Mercedes-Benz mentioned 1,200 kilometers, but Schäfer says that the benchmark in the development of the concept car was 1,000 kilometers.
He adds some information: the Vision EQXX must show a single-digit power consumption in kWh per 100 kilometers ‘at normal highway speeds’. That means an average power consumption of less than 10 kWh per 100 kilometres. By comparison, many current EVs are between 15 and 20 kWh per 100 kilometers. In that case, Mercedes-Benz would therefore make a significant impact in terms of efficiency. In addition, Schäfer reports that the energy density of the cells in the battery pack is 20 percent higher than with the EQS. According to Schaefer, the cW value of the Vision EQXX is also even lower than the already low 0.20 of the current electric flagship from Mercedes-Benz.
We will undoubtedly hear more at the unveiling on January 3rd. It is not yet known whether the Vision EQXX will go into production. The knowledge that Mercedes-Benz has gained with this project will undoubtedly seep into the brand’s electric range at a later stage.
