Meter readings registered with each maintenance as of 1 July

It has been in the air for a while and now it is official: from 1 July the odometer reading of a car will always be registered if the vehicle has been at a garage for maintenance. An earlier lower limit of maintenance costs is canceled.

The government wants to tackle fraud with odometer readings harder. That is why, in October, the proposal came forward to scrap the lower limit for meter reading registration. Now the meter reading is only registered and passed on to the RDW for maintenance of € 150 or more, which will change from 1 July, the Bovag reports. Then every time the car is in the garage, the position is noted and that is also reflected on the NAP report.

The Dutch Teller Fraud Association (VAT) is satisfied. “We noticed that the limit of € 150 in practice sometimes resulted in a lack of clarity about which activities should and should not be registered. The reduction to zero euros provides clarity,” said chairman Martin Huisman. He explains that not every visit to the garage automatically leads to a registration of the meter reading: “The mandatory registration does not apply to counter sales. Only if the car physically enters the workshop and a work order is created.”
