Ministry: ‘Delivery of cars to public places allowed’

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management allows car companies to deliver and collect vehicles by appointment in public places. The decision follows a consultation between the Ministry and the Rai Association, Bovag and the Association of Dutch Car Leasing Companies (VNA). However, car companies are still not allowed to receive customers on their own premises.

The advocacy groups actually pushed for the Ministry to allow deliveries by appointment into the showroom during the lockdown. That requirement did not stand, but the current decision will at least give car companies a little more flexibility when it comes to the delivery and collection of cars. For the time being, this is only allowed in public places, such as a parking lot or a parking garage. Car companies are therefore not allowed to deliver cars on their own site. They are still allowed to deliver the cars to the customer’s home.

It is hoped that this measure will prevent a significant delay in deliveries. Especially for business drivers who still want to benefit from a more favorable addition this year, that would be a considerable setback. The delivery of cars to public locations is only allowed by appointment. When making the delivery itself, the buyer and seller must observe applicable corona guidelines and no other persons must be present.
