Mitsubishi Airtrek: Electric SUV for China

Mitsubishi also makes itself heard at Auto Shanghai. In collaboration with the Chinese Partner GAC, the brand comes with the Mitsubishi Airtrek, an electric crossover, of course. The car has not yet been fully revealed, but it already shows its front and rear.

Officially this is still a teaser, but Mitsubishi and GAC are already showing a surprising amount of their electric newcomer. The front shows a clear family connection with that of other recent Mitsubishis such as the new Outlander and heavily renewed Eclipse Cross. The front, built up of layers, also appears to have continuous LED beams.

There is no such a fashionable LED bar at the rear, but the Airtrek is equipped with striking, L-shaped light units. The license plate is housed in the bumper, so that the tidy tailgate focuses on the Mitsubishi logo.

Mitsubishi does not yet give details about the powertrain, although we do know that the car is fully electric. Anyone in the Netherlands hoping for a revival of the addition-friendly Mitsubishi SUV, we must disappoint: this Airtrek is exclusive to the Chinese market.

Incidentally, the name ‘Airtrek’ is not completely new. The very first generation of the Mitsubishi Outlander was initially called that way in Japan, although that car got a completely different front in 2001 than ‘our’ Outlander.
