More and more Dutch young people have an iPhone

Research by Telecompaper shows that the number of Dutch young people who own an iPhone continues to grow steadily. There are now more young people with an iPhone than with a Samsung smartphone.

Dutch young people with an iPhone

From a survey by the research firm’s Consumer Insights Panel Telecom paper it turns out that about 60 percent of Dutch young people between the ages of 16 and 24 have an iPhone. Four years ago it was only 51 percent. Telecompaper believes that this is partly because Apple has benefited from the disappearance of Huawei.

The trend is also visible among all ages. In 2018, 30 percent of all Dutch people had an iPhone, which has now risen to 35 percent.

Market share of Samsung

The number of people with a Samsung smartphone was 43 percent four years ago and has remained so. Samsung’s market share has declined among young people. Four years ago, 29 percent of all Dutch young people had a Samsung smartphone, but that number has now fallen to 23 percent. Other brands, such as Xiaomi, OPPO, OnePlus and Sony, have 21 percent of the market.

According to Telecompaper, the iPhone is the most popular among Dutch young people aged 24 to 35. People over the age of 35 still increasingly opt for a Samsung smartphone.

Consumer Insights Panel

For the Consumer Insights Panel, Telecompaper surveys a minimum of 5000 people between the ages of 16 and 80 every month about their possession and use of electronics. The figures quoted are averages from 2022 to date, compared to averages from 2018 to date.
