Mercedes-Benz is working on an all-new E-Class. That new E-class will of course get a whole range of mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. The AMG label has already proven that electric support can also go well with extra driving pleasure. As a result, the new E-class also gets electrified AMG flavors, one of which you see on this new set of spy plates.
With the AMG GT 4-Door 63 SE Performance, the AMG department of Mercedes-Benz has already proven that it can also develop supreme plug-in hybrids. Not much later, the ladies and gentlemen of AMG even came up with sporty versions of both the electric EQE and EQS. The EQE gets a relatively traditional E-class next to it, a generation that still comes with combustion engines. There are already several mild-hybrid flavors of the current E-class and the current model is also no stranger to plug-ins. Of the two AMG versions of the E-class currently in existence, one has already been electrified: the E53. In these photos we seem to see the E53 variant of the soon to be completely new generation E-class.
Mercedes-Benz E-Class
The E-class in these photos betrays its true nature with, among other things, its exhaust pipes, footwear and fierce-looking braking. Where the 63 AMG has square exhaust tailpipes, you can recognize the 53 AMG by two sets of round exhaust pipes. The current generation E-class has a 435 hp and 520 Nm strong 3.0 in-line six, a machine with 22 hp of mild-hybrid support that we also expect in the new E-class, although you can use at least a handful of charge extra horsepower. Just another six-cylinder for the E AMG, so it seems. The AMG versions of the C-class only get four-cylinder.
In time, the new E-class will of course also get a more intense sporty 63 flavor, but we are not going to talk about that yet. The new E-class has yet to be presented at all. Expect a model that neatly nestles between the recently renewed C and S class in terms of size and appearance.
