In the second quarter of 2023, Toyota will bring the new Prius to the Netherlands. That is always a plug-in hybrid in Europe and now we also know how far the Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid comes with a full battery.
The outgoing and previous generation Toyota Prius were available in hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions. With the new Prius, Toyota is taking a different path. Although a hybrid Prius is also for sale in Japan, among others, the new model will only come to Europe as a plug-in hybrid. Stéphan Vermeulen could already tell you in the video of the new Prius, but if you haven’t watched it – we can hardly imagine it – : the new Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid comes almost 70 kilometers away on a full battery.
There is also another Prius without a plug, but this time it will not come to Europe.
The latest Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid is much more powerful than its predecessors. Where the outgoing Prius Plug-in Hybrid had a 99 hp 1.8 that combined with a 92 hp electric motor for a system power of 122 hp, the new model is almost twice as potent. In its nose is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 148 hp. Together with a 160 hp electric motor, this results in a system power of 223 hp. With that muscle power, it is immediately the fastest Prius ever. You can sprint to a speed of 100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds.
The new Prius also looks completely different from its predecessor on the inside.
The brand new plug-in Prius is not only more powerful than its predecessor; the electric range is also much greater. The battery pack, which is located entirely under the rear seat this time, is one and a half times larger with a capacity of 13.6 kWh than the one in the outgoing Prius Plug-in. With the old model you could travel a maximum of 50 kilometers electrically and Toyota initially indicated that the new Prius Plug-in Hybrid should go 50 percent further. But an electric range of 75 kilometers does not save the new Prius with plug. Toyota specifies an electric driving range of 69 kilometers for the new model.
As mentioned, the new Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid will be launched in the Netherlands in the second quarter of 2023. Prices will follow in the run-up to the market launch.
