WhatsApp has released a new update to the app, introducing a long-awaited video calling feature. What does the update entail?
Video calling becomes easier
WhatsApp has released a new update for the app with some cool new features. The most important new function is aimed at making video calling easier. With the new update, it becomes possible to make video calls via WhatsApp, without having to have the app open all the time.

This new feature makes it much easier to multitask when you’re video calling via WhatsApp. Earlier it was already possible to call via WhatsApp, while you have another app open. Now that is also possible with video calling: if you close WhatsApp while you are making a video call, a small window will now appear in the corner of your screen containing the video call.
Picture in picture was already introduced in iOS 14
This function, in which a video plays in a reduced size in the corner of your screen, is also known as picture-in-picture. This function may be new to WhatsApp, but Apple already introduced the function in iOS 14. For example, it has long been possible to make video calls with FaceTime while you have another app open.
With WhatsApp it was already possible to make video calls with another app open, but the camera was paused when opening the other app. After the new update, the camera will remain on, so you can easily check your agenda or notes during the video call, for example.
WhatsApp update includes more new features
The new update for WhatsApp also contains more new features. This makes it possible to add captions when sending documents. This was previously possible when sending photos. In addition, the update allows you to create longer group descriptions and group topics.
