OnePlus 8 series presented: these are the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro

OnePlus 8

Chinese manufacturer OnePlus unveiled the OnePlus 8 series on Tuesday during a live stream. The series consists of the OnePlus 8 Pro and the OnePlus 8. The company has also presented new parts for the software and new earplugs are coming.

OnePlus has some new things ahead for the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. For example, both phones support 5G and Wifi 6, thanks to the Qualcomm X55 modem. Both devices also have the Snapdragon 865 processor and you will soon have the choice of 8 or 12 GB of RAM.

Those configurations are linked to a specific amount of storage space. For example, you will soon get a OnePlus 8 version with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage (for 699 euros) or 12 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage (for 799 euros). The OnePlus 8 Pro is available in 8 GB ram and 128 GB rom (for 899 euros), as well as 12 GB ram and 256 GB rom (for 999 euros).

The OnePlus 8 Pro

While both phones have similarities, there are also differences. For example, the OnePlus 8 Pro has a 6.78 inch screen, with a resolution of QHD +. The refresh rate has increased from 90 to 120 Hz compared to the OnePlus 7 Pro, so there are 120 images per second.

The screen can also be set quite clearly: a maximum of 1300 nits. We don’t often see that on smartphones. That means you can probably see more than fine what you’re doing on the screen when you use it in full sun. DisplayMate, a professional institution that assesses screens, has already given the display an A + rating.

Furthermore, OnePlus claims that more than 280 optimizations have been made to the screen. For example, there is support for MEMC algorithm. MEMC stands for motion estimation, motion compensation. It will enable the OnePlus 8 Pro to watch videos at up to 120 frames per second, without any ghosting or artifacts, said a company spokesperson.

The working memory is of the variant LPDDR5. This means that up to thirty percent at higher speeds can be achieved, while the system works up to twenty percent more efficiently. In addition, there are stereo speakers (with Dolby Atmos support) and an improved vibration motor.

On the back are four cameras on a OnePlus for the first time. Two of them have 48 megapixels (the main camera and the ultra-wide angle lens, which also has a viewing angle of 120 degrees). The telephoto lens can zoom in up to 3x hybrid and up to 30x digital. There is also a color filter camera, which can focus on one color in the environment, while the rest is gray.

The system also has a combination of optical and digital image stabilization. In addition, there is support for high dynamic range (HDR), providing a wide color gamut for photos.

This is also the first device of the company that can be charged wirelessly with Warp Charge 30 Wireless. The battery, with a power of 4510 mAh, is charged fifty percent within thirty minutes. You can do this with wire within 23 minutes.

And this is the OnePlus 8

The OnePlus 8 features less impressive specifications. There is a large screen of 6.55 inches, which has 90Hz image refresh, an aspect ratio of 20: 9 and support for HDR 10 and HDR 10+. This screen has also received an A + rating from DisplayMate.

On the back we find three cameras, including the main camera of 48 megapixel and the wide-angle lens of 16 megapixel (and viewing angle of 116 degrees). The system is able to capture four times more pixels than before thanks to the Sony IMX586 sensor.

The device cannot be charged wirelessly, but the battery of 4300 mAh does support Warp Charge 30T. This allows you to charge it halfway within 22 minutes.

OxygenOS and OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z

Furthermore, the devices offer the latest version of the OxygenOS, based on Android 10. A new dark theme is coming, which applies to multiple apps than is currently the case. You also get three months of free access to Google One, with a cloud storage of 100 GB. Existing OnePlus customers will have a one-month trial.

In addition, Amazon Alexa also comes with the devices. When you download Amazon’s voice assistant, she can help with your phone calls, smart home controls and much more. You can also transfer your image from your smartphone to your TV, for example. In the future, several options are coming.

Then we have the OnePlus Bullets Wireless Z, the new wireless earplugs. With just ten minutes of charging, they can last up to ten hours. And if you fully charge them, they will last up to twenty hours. They will soon be available in black and blue.
