Ora Haomao: cheerful, retro and electric

The Chinese manufacturer Ora has yet another new electric hatchback. We are digitally introduced to the ES11, a car with a special design and an even wackier name.

The Chinese car manufacturer Ora, part of Great Wall, has again presented a very optimistic-looking EV. Recently we already got acquainted with the R2, the headstrong brother of the R1 similar to the Renault Twingo and Smart ForFour, and now there is yet another new electric model of the brand. The car is still referred to as ES11, but will soon get a nice typical real name on its bottom.

The Ora R1 already mentioned will soon be referred to as ‘Heimao’, freely translated to Zwarte Kat. The younger R2 will soon be called Baimao, or White Cat. This new electric hatchback, codenamed ES11, is also a feline, and if we are to believe the Chinese, it is also a Haomao. A ‘Good Cat’. That (unfortunately) has nothing to do with boundless animal love from the senior management of Ora. The cat designations are derived from a statement made by former Chinese head of state Deng Xiaoping in the 1960s.Black cat or white cat, if it can catch mice, it’s a good cat. “

The Ora Haomao is a 4.24 meter long hatchback with a 2.65 meter wheelbase. The overall shape of the car seems to be somewhat of a combination of a Nissan Leaf and a Volkswagen New Beetle, complemented by a touch of 911 in the nose. It is striking how the initially somewhat uncomfortable-looking carriage is easier to digest due to the high retro content. Under the skin is an electric motor of 143 hp, but exact specifications about the drivetrain, along with decent images of the interior and the rear, are kept under the hood.
