Ora is a very cheerful Chinese manufacturer. The brand has shown a bunch of teaser sketches of what it will be presenting to the public on May 19. Ora seems to come with an electric hatchback whose appearance is clearly based on that of the classic Volkswagen Beetle.
Ora is a brand of the Chinese manufacturer Great Wall. Ora supplies purely electric models, cars that, with the exception of a few, are packed in cheerful retro jackets. Those electric models officially have names like R1, R2 and Haomao, although the Chinese names are much nicer. For example, the R1 is called ‘Black Cat’, the R2 ‘White Cat’ and Ora apparently has a ‘Good Cat’ with the Haomao. Later this month Ora will present a new model in China, a car that, like most of its brothers, is quite retro.
Ora
Ora’s latest EV seems to have driven away from a parallel universe where Josef Ganz got drunk behind the drawing board before drawing up the lines of the car that would lead to the Volkswagen Beetle in a dubious ‘detour’. Viewed from the side, Ora’s new electric retro field looks a bit too long to be called harmonious, although the elongated Beetle carriage is undoubtedly a practical advantage. Also from behind are the Beetle influences omnipresent. On the flared mudguards are small, oval rear light units and the probably chrome-colored bumper work nods to the past. We will know more about this cheerful EV later!
