What no one ever thought has become reality today: the average petrol price for Euro 95 has broken the € 2.50 per liter barrier. And the end of the price hike is not yet in sight.
When the petrol price reached its highest level last year on November 18, and an average of € 2,145 per liter had to be tapped, we really thought “it shouldn’t get any crazier”, but in the end that was only a small beer compared to the unprecedented explosion since Putin Ukraine launched the declared war.
In recent weeks, the price development has become almost impossible to keep up with, with increases of more than five cents a day. In that respect, the increase of 0.8 cents per liter for Euro95 (E10) is still relatively small today, although the psychological limit of € 2.50 p/l has now been broken.
BP, Shell and Texaco are just below with their suggested retail prices, Esso and Total are above. Motorcyclists with engines that are not suitable for E10 and are therefore forced to refuel E5 (Super) have been used to this for several days, the price of E5 is currently almost 2.60 euros per liter.
The explosion of the petrol price seems to be much worse in the Netherlands than in neighboring countries. In recent years, the difference with our southern neighbors was around 25 cents per liter, since the price explosion this has more than doubled: the Shell recommended retail price of Euro95 is today € 1,9510 p/l in Belgium and € 2,489 p/l in the Netherlands. , or a difference of € 0.538 p/l.
