Peugeot 5008 also under the knife

Following the example of the 3008, the 5008 now also goes under the knife. The largest SUV of the Peugeot pair is undergoing similar modifications to its previously facelifted shorter brother.

Recently, the now four-year-old 3008 was quite radically facelifted and logically the same cropping session is planned for the larger 5008 that can accommodate seven instead of a maximum of five occupants. Just like the 3008, the updated 5008 gets a completely new muzzle, with the image mainly determined by a new, frameless grille that optically continues under the headlights. Two vertical LED strips run into the new bumper from these new headlights, from which the aforementioned design element takes a ‘bite’. We already know these ‘tusks’ from cars like the 208, 2008 and 508. The model name ‘5008’ can be read on the top of the bonnet, again just like on cars like the 508 and recently 3008.

The optical adjustments at the rear are a lot less radical, although Peugeot also covers the whole here with the brush of innovation. The 5008 benefits from the arrival of new full LED tail lights with dynamic turn signals and a revised rear bumper. In the interior, Peugeot is installing a new display that belongs to the infotainment display. The screen has a diameter of 10 inches and can handle both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Peugeot is also reviewing the digital 12.3-inch large digital instrumentation on a detailed level. All non-plug-in flavors now come standard with a selection button to set the character of the 5008 in the Normal, Sport and Eco modes.

Just like the 508, the 5008 is now available with ‘Night Vision’, a system with which, thanks to infrared technology in the digital instruments, you can see far beyond the light beam in the dark. Other new systems: the 5008 with eight-speed automatic transmission now has adaptive cruise control with Stop & Go function and the SUV is introduced to systems such as Lane Position Assist and more extensive versions of an emergency braking system and traffic sign recognition.

Initially, two petrol and two diesel engines will be included on the international engine list. On petrol level, there is the 130 hp and 230 Nm strong 1.2 PureTech three-cylinder which is available with a manual six-speed gearbox and an automatic gearbox with eight gears. Above that is the 180 hp and 250 Nm strong 1.6 Puretech with four pips, always linked to an automatic transmission. Diesel is possible with the 130 hp BlueHDi, a 1.5 with manual and automatic transmission. The provisional topper 180 hp is also strong on diesel. This Puretech 180 is a 400 Nm strong machine that is always linked to the automatic transmission with eight gears. Unlike the 3008, the 5008 does not yet have a plug-in hybrid variant.

Specific information for the Dutch market, as well as prices, are not yet known at the time of writing.
