Do you regularly receive messages or calls from unknown telephone numbers? In that case, there is a good chance that you have dealt with scammers. This has been a major problem on WhatsApp for years, as criminals try to steal data and money from other users in various ways. To prevent this, WhatsApp will soon display a warning that makes users aware of possible scams.
Criminals often use similar methods to obtain certain data. One of those methods asks the victim to share the screen so that they can easily retrieve sensitive information. WhatsApp has long offered the option to share your screen, but from now on it will first show a warning. This should prevent users from unknowingly revealing important information.
This is what the warning looks like
Do you ever make video calls via WhatsApp? In that case, you may have already shared your screen via the messaging service. During a video call you get the option to show your screen to other users, which is useful during meetings, for example. Yet it can also be dangerous, because this way, according to WhatsApp, scammers can more quickly discover data that should remain private.
WhatsApp tries to prevent this by showing a warning when you start sharing your screen. In this warning, WhatsApp emphasizes that you should only share your screen with users you trust. In addition, WhatsApp states in the notification that everything on your screen is shown, even if you share it during a video call. Sensitive information such as bank details and verification codes are not hidden by WhatsApp and remain visible on the shared screen.

To share the screen you have to manually dismiss the warning in WhatsApp. This means that users are much more aware of the possible dangers of a video call via the messaging service. It is not yet clear whether this notification will be displayed every time you share your screen, or is a one-time warning. In any case, it is a good way to alert users to the possible dangers of screen sharing.
In addition to the important warning about video calls, WhatsApp has announced more measures against spam. The messaging service will soon introduce a restriction on messages.
