Apple has pulled the plug on the older version of the Home app. If you want to continue using the app, you must update the app now.

Do you use Apple Home (Home) to control your smart devices in your home? Then you have to pay attention. If you are still on an older version, it is important to update.
In iOS 16.4, a special update was released for the Home app. You did not necessarily have to install this update and it remained optional for a long time. But Apple has now moved away from that. From February 10, you must install this update. Don’t you do that? Then your HomeKit configuration may (partly) stop working.
To update the Home app, follow the steps below.
- Start the Home app;
- Tap the three dots at the top right;
- Choose ‘Home settings’;
- Scroll down and tap ‘Software Update’;
- Install the update.
If you don’t see an update after following these steps, then there’s nothing wrong. Your Home app will then be completely up to date.
Update for the Home app
Apple announced in May last year that this update was no longer optional. Apple then said that iOS 19 would be the last system version that still supports the old Home architecture. Apple had also said that they planned to end support in the fall of 2025. Apple later moved the date up again, to February 10, 2026.
Apple promises better performance with the new update, but there are also some disadvantages. An iPad can no longer serve as a home hub and all users must have at least iOS/iPadOS 16.2, macOS 13.1 or watchOS 9.2 installed. Can’t update a device? Then operating accessories via that device will no longer work after the update.
